On May 2223, 2021, the 11th China Petroleum Engineering Design Competition was held in Beijing. 6 students from our group won awards in the competition, and the instructor, Zhang Kai, was awarded Excellent Instructor. The team of OilRange, to which Dai QinYang belongs, won the first prize in the single category of reservoir engineering in the scheme design category (there are 2 national first prizes in this category), and the team of SmartField won the second prize in the software design category (there are 3 national second prizes in this category). SmartField team consists of five members of our group: Zhongzheng Wang, Chao Zhong, Yuande Zuo, Baodong Zhang, and Leilei Deng.

Based on the data of the competition, the team designed a high potential-driven, multi-zone, fine-deployment, rolling development production plan by combining the characteristics of offshore gas condensate fields with the comprehensive evaluation method of reserve quality, machine learning global optimization method of well location, pressure-holding succession development model, and the three full fine gas reservoir engineering design methods. The SmartField team has built an intelligent reservoir development computing platform based on the artificial intelligence platform Dataiku and the programming languages Java and Python to address the key challenges of traditional methods and the trend of oilfield intelligence, build a fast feedback machine learning model, reduce the reliance on complex physical simulation, and support rapid model calibration and development. and support the integration of reservoir development process with rapid model correction, program optimization and production dynamic analysis.

It is reported that the competition is jointly organized by the Chinese Petroleum Society, the National Committee of China World Petroleum Council and the Chinese Petroleum Education Society, with the strong support of China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, China National Offshore Oil Corporation and Schlumberger;  a total of 2346 teams from 43 universities and research institutes in China applied for the competition and submitted a total of 1326 valid entries.  A total of 2,346 teams from 43 universities and research institutes in China submitted 1326 valid entries.  The competition was divided into four categories: comprehensive design category, single design category, innovative design category and software development category.  After the preliminary examination, re-examination and on-site defense of the finals, one Excellence Cup (comprehensive design category), 20 first prizes, 54 second prizes and 242 third prizes were awarded.
